One of the most important qualities of a young mind is flexibility. It's not flexibility in the sense of a limber body, but mental flexibility—your willingness to let go of specific expectations, situations, and outcomes.
Surveys of centenarians (people who live to be 100 or older) show that the most common reason given for their long lives isn't diet or exercise; it's the ability to let go.
If you live to be 100 years old, chances are good you will experience challenges and losses. Yet super-seniors are able to overcome adversity and move on with their lives. They relinquish their hold on experiences that do not serve them.
Letting go is not about giving up on what you want. It's okay to have intentions; just make room for alternate outcomes. Letting go opens you to more possibilities.
Remember: Life is a process of continual change and transformation. Allowing it to unfold is in sync with the natural force of evolution. Letting go releases stress, calms the mind, and reverses the aging process.
