Try It: Think About Hearing Someone Say, "I Love You"

Now that you know the role emotions play in our physical well-being, begin renewing your vitality by practicing this simple exercise:

Visualize yourself hearing the words "I love you" from someone you care about.

Maybe you were in school with your first crush, and the experience was romantic. Maybe you were leaving for college, and your father hugged you tightly to show that he'd miss you. Or maybe your grandchild was excited to spend time with you and let you know how she felt.

We have all known the exuberance and energy that comes from feeling loved. It doesn't have to be romantic love—feeling warmth from a friend or family member is equally as powerful to your physiology.

Take a minute to think about your "I love you" memory, and how you felt at that moment. Write your feelings in the comments box below.

When you are finished writing your thoughts, click the "Next" button to learn about the profound changes love can bring.
